A steady influx of industrial workers had caused, by 1919, crowded conditions at the Stark and Garfield schools located east of the Timken Company.
Consequently, the Board of Education awarded a contract on September 3, 1919, for the construction of an additional building to be located on 17th St. S.W., two blocks west of the Timken Company. Ten teachers of the new McGregor School welcomed their first pupils on April 4, 1921.
Over the years thousands of Canton's children have received their education at McGregor, and we are proud of our school's rich heritage as we face the challenges of a new millenium.
McGregor is one of the buildings scheduled to be replaced with a new structure, construction of which is scheduled to begin in April 2005 and will be completed January 2007. Old building or new, however, McGregor remains committed to the philosophy that all students can -- and will -- learn.
